The complex will also serve other universities in the city’s north-east where dormitories have met only 20-30 per cent of the students’ demand.
Work up to 32 other buildings in the project would begin by late this year and early next year.
Nguyen Thanh Tai, vice chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said the development was evidence of the city’s and province’s determination to improve living condition for students, who would contribute to the development of high quality human resources.
On the same day, construction on another student dormitory area with a total investment of VND253 billion ($14 million) was set to begin in northern Thai Binh province’s Thai Binh city.
As many as 3,460 students of the Thai Binh College for Teachers’ Training will enjoy access to four nine-storey buildings with total floor area of up to 33,000sq.m.
The dormitory area is expected to be habitable at the beginning of 2011.
