Many activities will take place this Tet holiday in Hanoi and HCM City.

Hanoi: On the evening of February 13, there will have an incense offering rituals to King Ly Thai To, who chose Thang Long – Hanoi as Vietnam’s capital 1000 years ago in three sites from 10-11pm: the square in front of the Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi; Bac Ninh, the hometown of King Ly Thai To; Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh), the capital of the Ly Dynasty before King Ly Thai To decided to move the capital to Thang Long. The rituals in Hanoi will have the presence of Party and State leaders.
At places set with fireworks, there will have music and dance shows themed “The Sound of Spring”.
Many activities will be held around the Hoan Kiem Lake, including a music gala at the Ba Kiem Temple, a traditional cheo performance at the Ngoc Son Temple and a circus show at the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square.
A big festival entitled “Thang Long – Hanoi Spring Festival” will take place in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To, in front of the Hoan Kiem Lake.
The festival will comprise many traditional festivals contributed by Hanoi’s districts and sports and cultural activities.
From February 13 to 19, music shows will be held every night in many outdoor stages in Hanoi. The biggest show will be organized at the Ba Kieu temple on the evening of February 19.
The Viet Nam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi will organise a series of interesting events to celebrate the Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays from February 19 to 21.
The grand opening ceremony will be held on February 19 with a fireworks display and water puppet show. The programme will be enhanced with gong performances, musical instruments and ethnic folk songs by 20 Gie Trieng ethnic people from the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
Tourists will also have a rare chance to enjoy an ethnic bamboo dance of the Thai ethnic people from Tuong Duong District, the central province of Thanh Hoa. Twenty local artists will come to the museum and perform their dance to celebrate the new year and completed rice harvest.
A water puppetry performance will also take place on the occasion. Children will not only have a chance to enjoy the performances, but also learn how to manipulate the puppets under the instruction of puppeteers from the Hong Phong troupe, based in the northern province of Hai Duong. There will be four daily performances from February 17.
Visitors will be treated to decorative calligraphy, featuring ‘lucky’ words such as Phuc, Loc and Tho (happiness, prosperity and longevity) which are traditionally hung in celebration of the new year.
Artists from Dong Ho Village in the northern province of Bac Ninh will display their folk artworks on do (poonah) paper and guide visitors in the art of print-making.
Visitors can join traditional games and enjoy ethnic minority food specialities.
As it’s the Year of Tiger, games and a toy-making competition will feature the theme of the tiger such as tiger masks, drawing clay tigers and kneading tigers from dough.
Going to the Hanoi Water Park, visitors will receive Tet gifts enjoy unicorn, dragon dances, puppet shows and road shows.
On February 14, lovers can enjoy a small party on the giant ferris wheel in the park and a special music show.
HCM City: The long Tet holiday and the Valentine would be the chance for stages, theatres, circuses and night clubs in the country’s largest city to run at full capacity.
All new and old stages will open this Tet. From February 14, the Hoang Thai Thanh stage will introduce two new plays: The world must have love and Insurance for love. The two dramas will be performed one show a day until February 23.
Idecaf promises to launch four new comedies: Tam and Cam, Forbidden land, Invisible muzzle and Nothing hurt like the truth.
The HCM City Drama Theatre will perform five dramas: Opposite love stories , Spring love stories, Unexpected happiness, Billionaire looks for her father and Idol⦠deity statue.
The Young World Theatre, which has just been established, will launch four comedies, which gather famous actors, models and singers like Bao Quoc, Ngoc Giau, Viet Anh, Thanh Thuy, Phi Thanh Van, etc. They are “Mother’s boy”, “Pretty girls hunt big bosses”, “Man in love”, “Carrying wife on head”.
This year, actress Hong Van’s four stages – Phu Nhuan, Kim Chau, Super Bowl and HCM City Theatre – will open every day, with 2-3 shows/day, including dramas, comedies and English dramas.
At Dam Sen park, comedian Hoai Linh will have a live show at 11.30am from February 14-19. At the same time, comedian Kieu Oanh also introduces her comedy Spring Love Stories.

Famous singers like Dam Vinh Hung, Yen Trang, Lam Truong, Ho Quynh Huong, Cam Ly, Thu Minh, Hien Thuc, etc. will take part in a special music show named “Spring Flowers” at the Lan Anh stage from February 14-18.
Most of night clubs will open through Tet. At the Dong Dao night club, singers Quang Dung and Thu Minh will perform from February 14-15.
The Hung Dao cai luong theatre will also open from February 14-23.
A special animal circus show will take place at the 23/9 Park from February 14-22.
