Well-funded works to miss 1000th anniversary deadline in Hanoi

VnnNews – Several construction projects receiving preferential funds in Hanoi will not be finished in time to celebrate the city’s 1000th anniversary.

The Van Cao – Ho Tay Street is one of the projects that will not be finished as planned by the 1000th anniversary of Hanoi.

Work on all the 34 funded construction projects scheduled to open in time for the 1000th anniversary have fallen behind schedule with it also being revealed that seven will not be ready on time.

 

The news was made public by the Hanoi People’s Committee at a meeting with the city People’s Council.

 

Projects range from traffic construction to cultural preservation. It includes work on Co Loa Citadel which is more than 2,200 years old and located 20 kilometers north of central Hanoi.

 

The committee revealed project investors had lacked the capacity to speed up steps including establishing, assessing and approving detailed plans.

 

In addition, it’s claimed project consultants have not worked well with plans having to be changed several times before commencement. Elsewhere, troubles involving ground-clearance and compensation also caused hold ups.

 

The seven delayed projects have been supported with trillions of Dong from the capital city’s budget.

 

Phi Thai Binh, deputy chairman of the committee, said none of the projects were facing a funding shortage while Nguyen Hoai Nam of the People’s Council stated that city authorities have not fulfilled their responsibility in supervising the works.
