Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung permitted the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to invest in the APG international sea cable network.
The Asia-Pacific Gateway network (AGP) will connect China, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore. With a total length of 8000km, the AGP will run from South Korea to Malaysia with an initial capacity of 4 tbps (1tbps equivalent to 1.024 Gigabit/s).
This network is schedule to begin operation in the third quarter of 2011, with investment by China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT, NTT Communication, PLDT, Telekom Malaysia and VNPT.
The AGP network has been developed to serve the rising need for data exchange and the dynamic development of economies in this region.
