The market’s predecessor was opened in 1991 in the Saigon Tax Trade Center. It was called the Russian Market because many Russian dealers would shop there, and then sell the products in their home country.

Many products sold at the market are Vietnam’s export ed products, and as such, there is not enough choice for customers. A women’s t-shirt sells for about VND60,000, while children’s clothes range from VND30,000. Trousers and dresses cost about VND100,000 and high quality jackets sell for about VND950,000 maximum. There are many options available for foreigners as the market stocks larger sized clothing and shoes.

The Daily observed that the Russian Market is a comfortable place to shop. Stallholders rarely pester customers or ask for unreasonable prices. Customers are able to window shop without sellers complaining too.

Customers should be patient when shopping – always check potential purchases carefully and bargain hard. Spend some time at the Russian Market this weekend to see for yourself.

Golden Palace Restaurant will prepare an Oriental seafood buffet party with more than 45 seafood dishes together with many traditional Japanese, Korean, Thai and Chinese and Vietnam dishes. Children can make sand paintings and receive gifts.

A buffet called “Angel’s party night”, featuring meals for children together with cakes, drinks and fruits, will take place at the hotel’s Chez-Nous Restaurant from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 1. There will be singing contests and story telling and funny games. Tickets are priced at VND219,000 per adult and VND119,000 per child. Purchase of ten tickets will receive one free ticket.

* Continental Hotel (132 Dong Khoi Street, District 1, tel: 3823 9408)

Children around town can enter a painting contest themed “I love nature” which will be held at the hotel from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on May 30. Paintings will be displayed in the garden of the hotel and the best ones will be awarded a prize. Admission is VND50,000 per child.

In the evening, children can join a buffet party at the garden of the hotel and enjoy animated artistic programs performed by the HCMC Puppetry Troupe. The program will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs VND175,000 per adult and VND120,000 per child.

* De Nhat Hotel (18 Hoang Viet Street, Tan Binh District, tel: 3844 3821)

In response to a program of helping poor children, the hotel will celebrate a music show “Children’s Dreams” at the hotel’s First Grill Restaurant from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 31. The program promises to give children a happy and unforgettable day with kid’s fashion show and circus performance, as well as soft foods and gifts from the sponsor Bubchen and Anna Kids.

* Palace Saigon Hotel (56 Nguyen Hue Boulevard, District 1, tel: 3829 2860)

On the occasion, the restaurant will discount 10% for birthday guests and give 10 surprise gifts to children born on the day. Buffet lunch is VND116,000 and buffet dinner is VND182,000 per adult.

* Dong Khanh Hotel (2 Tran Hung Dao B Street, District 5, tel: 3923 6404)

A buffet program “Kids are all” will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with suitable courses for both children and adults. Children will indulge in games and receive gifts. The tickets are priced at VND169,000 per adult and VND69,000 per child.

* Bat Dat Hotel (238 Tran Hung Dao B Street, District 5, tel: 3857 8252)

The hotel will prepare a buffet with optional Vietnamese and Chinese dishes from 6 p.m. on May 30 and 31. Tickets are priced at VND150,000 per adult and VND100,000 per child, inclusive of drinks. Purchase of ten tickets will get one free.

* Van Thanh Park (48/10 Dien Bien Phu Street, Binh Thanh District, tel: 3512 3026)

The tourist site is planning a buffet party “Day of Kids” with over 40 dishes. Children will have a chance to play folk games and view circus show and puppetry show. Tickets are VND150,000 per adult and VND100,000 per child.
