He explained: “If it can connect all its members well, it will help create a great strength in the Vietnamese business community.”
Meanwhile Bui Quang Ngoc, deputy chairman of FPT Group added: “If you have a high ranking on VNR 500, you will have advantages.”
He should know, his own employer has topped the list of 500 Vietnamese leading private businesses for the last three consecutive years.
Ngoc admitted maintaining such a high ranking has helped FPT in its business, especially when working with foreign partners.
Digiworld is also benefitting from promoting its position in theVNR 500 ranking- especially in a bid to impress potential foreign partners.
“They might not have heard of VNR 500, but after we explain that it is built in accordance with Fortune 500 scheme, they have a much better understanding of the strength of our business. A seat at VNR 500 really can bring benefits to businesses,” said Hoang Tung, deputy general director of Digiworld.
VNR 500 is also the secret behind the success of Trung Chinh Company, a business specializing in trading, processing and exporting rubber in Quang Ninh province.
Trung Chinh director Nguyen Khac Trung said that with only five years in operation, Trung Chinh would not easily be able to persuade partners to cooperate with the company in doing business. However, its position on VNR 500 is inspiring confidence in them.
Dinh Viet Duy, deputy director of ACSC, a trade and installation company, said that a ranking in the VNR 500 is always the goal for his company. ACSC has fallen in the 2009 rankings, which has forced the company’s leadership to adjust future business plans.
VNR 500 needs to connect Vietnamese businesses
VNR 500 Forum on VietNamNet, where businesses can express their voice, and VNR 500 Club, which recognizes top businesses, have both been acting as a bridge for enterprises to meet and cooperate. Over the last three years, the organization board has been making every effort to support businesses by providing information, organizing workshops and exchanges of views.
One of the activities of the VNR 500 club that its members are most interested in are the visits from world famous experts and orators such as Professor John Quelch, associate dean of Harvard Business School, Professor Thomas E. Patterson, and director of Shorenstein, Professor Robert Kaplan.
“Foreign speakers can really help a great deal. They suggest ideas that inspire our own medium and long term aims,” said Dinh Viet Duy from ACSC.
However, VNR 500 Club’s members said that they wish to see more active actions to connect members.
“We are business people. And business people want be able to seek business opportunities in meetings and discussions,” Duy added
Phan Thu Anh, deputy general director of Generalexim, an import-export company, said topics for the VNR 500 forum and VNR 500 Club should be more practical which could include problems businesses meet on a daily basis.
For example, Anh said, in 2010, businesses anticipate that they may have to borrow money from banks at highest-in-the-world interest rates and businesses should have a voice about the problem.
