VnnNews – After three days of fierce competition, the 17th International Athletics Championships, the Ho Chi Minh City-Vietnam Open ended up with first place going to the host country.
In the triple jump, Nguyen Van Hung broke his old record of 16m37 by 4cm to set a new personal best 16m41.
Vu Van Huyen also his best ever performance to win gold in the pole vault with a new record of 4m75.
In the javelin, Nguyen Truong Giang from Ben Tre recorded 69m4 to set a new record.
The last record in the championships was broken by Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc from Da Nang, who finished the 5,000m walk in 23m47s.
On the track, old veterans Nguyen Dinh Cuong, Truong Thanh Hang and Vu Thi Huong easily grabbed 4 gold medals in men’s 800m and 1,500m and women’s 10,000m and 100m events. Sprinters Nguyen Thi Bac and Le Ngoc Phuong also won gold medals in the women’s 400×400m hurdling and 200m events.
Young athlete Tran Thanh Trung from Nam Dinh won the 200m in 21s84 while the two young jumpers Le Ngoc Xuyen from Vinh Long and Pham Thi Diem from Ben Tre, were placed first in the women’s long jump and high jump events.
The Vietnamese team came first with 8 golds, 5 silvers and 2 bronzes followed by the Republic of Korea (3 golds, 2 silvers), Thailand (2 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze) and Singapore (1 gold and 1 bronze).
