NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong visits Phat Diem Cathedral in northern Ninh Binh Province to wish people a happy new year. |
Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and Secretary of the Central Military Party Committee paid a New Year visit to the Ministry of Defence yesterday.
Manh wished the military officials, officers, and soldiers throughout the country a happy and prosperous new year.
He was full of praise for the achievements gained by the Viet Nam People’s Army in 2009 in strengthening its potential and readiness for action, particularly in the cause of all people’s national defence.
He asked the armed forces to try harder to turn the resolution on defence and military missions in 2010 of the Central Military Party Committee into reality.
He outlined the three main tasks of the year as enhancing the integrated strength of the nation, of the political system and national unity to make the all people’s defence force stronger, while consolidating the army battle readiness; further enhancing the heroic tradition of the Viet Nam People’s Army by fulfilling all assigned missions, including the advisory role to the Party and Government at all levels in national defence and security; and continuing the campaign to build a pure and strong party within the armed forces and for military units to thoroughly prepare for their grassroots level party congresses and the National Party Congress next year.
PM visits former leaders
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung wished former Party General Secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu and former President Le Duc Anh a happy Lunar New Year yesterday.
Dung wished the former leaders good health and asked them to continue contributing their minds and hearts to the glorious cause of the Party as it climbed the stairway to socialism.
The former leaders were loyal and patriotic Communist spirits that the next generation should follow, Dung said.
He also briefed the former leaders about achievements made in 2009 despite the difficulties the country faced from the global economic crisis. The former leaders affirmed their unswerving devotion to build a wealthy, strong, just, democratic and civilised Viet Nam remained.
Homes restored
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong urged Ninh Binh authorities to further streamline administrative reform, reduce inconveniences for the public and increase efforts to fight corruption yesterday.
Trong reminded local authorities to ensure the poor and families of war veterans and martyrs also enjoyed a happy and healthy Tet (Lunar New Year).
He said the nation’s major task this year would be to sustain growth and prevent the recurrence of to high inflation.
“To achieve sustainable growth, the Party must be transparent and people must feel secure in our just society,” he said.
Ninh Binh Province’s year-on-year economic growth rate of 15.3 per cent in 2009 was impressive.
Trong also praised the restoration of about 2,260 dilapidated houses belonging to poor people from the province last year. Similar generosity was on display this year after the province spent VND8billion (US$420,000) on Tet gifts for poor people and families of war martyrs and invalids.
He extended Tet wishes to Catholic clerics and their 16,000 followers in Ninh Binh Province’s Kim Son District.
Trong expressed his hope that Catholics would contribute to building a stronger Viet Nam. Bishop Nguyen Nang of Phat Diem diocese thanked the Party and the State for helping to improve living standards.
During yesterday’s trip, Trong visited temples that belonged to the kings Dinh and Le and Viet Nam’s largest pagoda, Bai Dinh.
As part of the preparations in the lead up to Tet, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan visited the southern province of Dong Thap.
The same day, Ngo Van Du, secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam’s Central Committee, offered his new year wishes to managers and workers of the Tien Bo Printing Company in Ha Noi.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly deputy chairwoman Tong Thi Phong had a year-end working session with leaders of the northern mountainous province of Son La.
