Tien Minh, who failed to defend his Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold a week ago, will play Atrashchenkov of Ukraine, who is not in the world’s top 50, in the first round. If Minh defeats Atrashchenkov, he will face the winner of the match between Raul Must from Estonia and Dieter Domke of Germany.
Tien Minh, currently ranked 7th in the world, left for France on August 17 with the duo Duong Bao Duc and Thai Thi Hong Gam, who will compete in the mixed doubles event. The couple will play Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama and Ying Suet Tse of Hong Kong in the first round.
The world tournament will take place from August 23-29.
Minh has never been defeated by any European rivals, aside Peter Gade from Denmark, from the number two ranked player in the world. However, Minh will face tough competition when he plays against the world’s best, like Park Sung Hwan from the Republic of Korea and Lin Dan or Jin Chen from China.
