VnnNews – A video clip shows a female student striking another in the face and chest in a savage daytime beating in the center of Hanoi.

Students of Chu Van An School in HCM City
In response to the event, on January 7, 2010, the Chua Van An Secondary School in HCM City announced that any group of female students that assault another will be transferred to different classes and will receive “bad conduct” reports for the school year.

The mother of Q., the victim, refused to comment about the case, while the headmaster of the Chu Van An School also refused to talk about the disciplinary measures.  Some say these punishments may not be enough of a deterrent.

Dr. Huynh Van Son, a psychologist from the HCM City University of Education, maintained that the Chu Van An School is taking a passive role in dealing with the case. Son spoke with the headmaster many times and reported that he was still awaiting a decision from the education sub-department. Meanwhile, the headmaster had full power to deal with the case and report how he handled it.

Clearly the assaulters need to be punished, but many unanswered questions remain. TA, who has two children at Chu Van An School confirmed that it is a good school with a high level of prestige. Students must have 20 marks at least to be enrolled. So then why is the school experiencing this type of student behavior?

The event surprised staff and teachers as well. A proctor of the school who asked to remain anonymous, explained that he knows all the female students in the case and they are all obedient students. He too cannot understand why they have become so violent.
