Linh injured in training in China; Viet Nam ready to welcome athletes; National football squad announced; Binh Duong humbled at U21 tourney

National wushu martial artist Vu Thuy Linh was injured while training in China.

Linh,19, was hospitalised after suffering a backbone and vertebra injury, but doctors have not been able to say how serious the injuries are.

According to coach Nguyen Phuong Lan, Linh needs at least 15 days of rest for treatment. If her injuries are not too serious she will continue training later this month.

The Southeast Asian Games champion is one of Viet Nam’s hopes for a medal at the coming Asian Indoor Games later this month.

Viet Nam ready to welcome athletes

Things are almost ready for the third Asian Indoor Games, which take place on October 30-November 8 in different cities and provinces in Viet Nam.

More than 7,000 volunteers, who are well trained and fluent in English, are ready to welcome and work at the biggest sporting event in Viet Nam’s history.

Security activities and plans to are good to go, and the information-technology system for the attending media is up and running.

Organisers are also ironing out transport plans, which has been an issue of concern for the Games.

More than 4,000 athletes, coaches and officials will attend the event. The Games are also expecting 2,000 of journalists, as well as sport fans from around Asia to be in attendance.

National football squad announced

The national football team will begin training on October 1 without their top striker Le Cong Vinh, who is playing for Leixoes in Portugal.

Fourteen of the chosen players won gold at the ASEAN Football Championship last year were called up again. Of the remaining players, six have trained with the national team before and three will make their debut.

On the team there are three goalkeepers, 10 defenders, six halfbacks and four strikers.

The team will start practising three weeks before HCM City’s International Football Tournament on October 20-24.

They will then prepare for the Asian Cup 2011’s qualifying match against Syria on November 14.

Binh Duong humbled at U21 tourney

Hosts Becamex Binh Duong suffered a humiliating 1-7 defeat by T&T Ha Noi during the National U21 Football Championship on Monday.

The victory pushed T&T past Binh Duong to the top of group A.

In the other game, Khanh Hoa beat HCM City 1-0. Both teams exited the tournament after two losses and one win.
