Hanoi Party Chief Pham Quang Nghi presents the Bui Xuan Phai Award to writer To Hoai.

The annual Bui Xuan Phai Awards – For the Love with Hanoi were initiated in 2008 to honor individuals and organizations who contribute to the capital city’s development. The awards are presented for four categories on the birthday of late famous painter Bui Xuan Phai, who is well-known for paintings about Hanoi’s streets.

This year writer To Hoai passed researchers Ly Khac Cung and Giang Quan to win the most important award, the Grand Prize, with 15 million dong in award money. Though he is very old, the writer still attended the award ceremony.

Apart from the Grand Prize, the organizing board presented three prizes worth 7 million dong each to composer Nguyen Cuong’s Bronze Drum Chorus; architect Hoang Thuc Hao’s “Peaceful Road” architectural project; and a group of experts who were able to convince UNESCO that Thang Long Royal Citadel was worthy of recognition as a world cultural heritage center.

An emulation prize was granted to a big-sized embroidered painting about Hanoi named “Coi Xua”. This painting is up to 170.5 square meters and was made over 60,000 days by over 100 artisans.
