S-Fone cooperates with Chinese partners

Last updated: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 |

VnnNews - Saigon Postel, the operator of S-Fone mobile network, has made public three memorandums of understanding with three foreign partners – Samsung, ZTE and Huawei.

Saigon Postel to operate S-Fone alone

This is Saigon Postel’s latest move after South Korean investor, SK Telecom, stated its intention to withdraw its capital in S-Fone.

According to these memorandums, Samsung, ZTE and Huawei will assist S-Fone in terms of technology, coverage expansion, 3G application, equipment, marketing and training, and voice services.

S-Fone Managing Director Ho Hong Son confirmed Samsung, ZTE and Huawei’s commitments of comprehensive assistance will help this network develop strongly in the future.

Son also revealed that SK Telecom still holds a position in the joint-venture, but no longer runs S-Fone directly.

After seven years, S-Fone, the third mobile network in Vietnam, has nearly 8 million subscribers but only 4 million are active. This is considered “snail’s pace” development in the booming telecom market.
