The Vietnam National Assembly wants to increase visit exchanges and share experiences with its RoK counterpart to better its functions and meet the requirements for national development and international integration.
Vice chairman Uong Chu Luu stated this while receiving Cho Jin-hyeong, chairman of the Republic of Korea National Assembly Committee on Public Administration and Security in Hanoi on March 10.
Mr Luu expressed his pleasure at the positive developments of the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries and their legislative bodies, which he said have exchanged regular visits to increase mutual understanding and cooperation in the past years.
He proposed the two National Assemblies maintain visit exchanges and effectively implement their signed agreements in the interest of the two nations.
For his part, Jin-hyeong praised Vietnam’s increasing role in the international arena after having fulfilled its duties as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2008-09 period and is currently chairing ASEAN in 2010.
He pointed to the fact that many RoK businesses have invested in Vietnam to transfer technology, share managerial experience and generate jobs for Vietnamese people. He proposed the National Assembly and government of Vietnam continue offering incentives to RoK businesses to operate efficiently in the country.
The RoK will accelerate legal and policy-making reforms to support approximately 90,000 Vietnamese nationals living, studying and working in the country, the RoK legislator assured Mr Luu.
He expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to support peace and denuclearisation on the Korean peninsular for the sake of peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
PM Dung seeks stronger economic ties with France, Poland
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed the newly appointed French and Polish ambassadors to Vietnam in separate meetings in Hanoi on March 10.
Receiving French diplomat Jean Francois Girault, Mr Dung thanked France for providing official development assistance to Vietnam and said the two countries still have great potential for increasing cooperation in economics, trade, investment, education-training, science-technology and culture.
He said relevant Vietnamese agencies are working with French agencies to realize agreements signed during Prime Minister Francois Fillon’s visit to Vietnam last November.
The government leader expressed his belief that ambassador Girault will help foster relations between Vietnam and France during his new working term in Hanoi.
Ambassador Girault said the French government highly values the close bonds with Vietnam, particularly after Mr Dung’s visit in 2007. He affirmed that France wants to raise trade and economic ties with Vietnam on a par with their fine political relations.
French businesses are interested in investing in Vietnam, said the ambassador.
In another meeting with Polish ambassador Pavel Wojciechwski, Mr Dung recalled his recent visit to Poland and said the friendly relations between Vietnam and Poland are developing well. He asked the diplomat to make a greater effort to deepen bilateral cooperative ties in all areas.
The Vietnamese government will create favourable conditions for the ambassador to fulfil his mission on the basis of mutual benefit and for peace and development, said Mr Dung.
He said he is looking forward to receiving the Polish Prime Minister during his upcoming visit to Hanoi.
Pavel Wojciechwski spoke highly of Vietnam’s development achievements, especially in weathering the global economic crisis. He vowed to work closely with relevant Vietnamese agencies to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
