Ho Chi Minh City reported that a man died of swine flu Friday, but the ministry had yet to confirm the cause of death.
One of the two women was 25 years old and 24 weeks pregnant when she died. She had begun showing symptoms of the disease on September 22 and was admitted to Ca Mau’s Obstetrics Hospital on the same day. She was transferred to the province’s general hospital the next day and died on September 27.
The other woman died on September 30, three days after being admitted to the hospital. She had begun feeling sick on September 24.
The victim from HCMC was a 29-year-old man with a critical heart disease.
He was admitted to the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Cardiology on September 26 with fever and fatigue. He was treated for a cardiologic infection but died six days later. A test later confirmed he had swine flu, according to local authorities. But the ministry must confirm the cause of death before it becomes official.
Since the swine flu hit Vietnam in May, more than 9,000 people have caught the virus. Nineteen of them have died, including four pregnant women.
As the disease continues to spread across the country (58 out of 62 provinces and cities have reported infections), two major testing centers in the central and southern regions recently announced the suspension of H1N1 tests due to the exhaustion of testing reagents.
