In the last seven football seasons, the title “V-League’s Highest Scorer” has belonged to foreign strikers.

Cong Vinh (yellow) has not scored any goal at the V-League 2010. |
This year, so far, local strikers have continued to be inferior to foreign players in the first rounds of V-League 2010.
Of the total 17 goals in five matches of the second round, only three were scored by Vietnamese names like Tan Tai, Sy Cuong and Vu Phong. The remaining 14 goals belonged to foreign or Vietnamese naturalized players (Huynh Kesley and Tran Le Martin).
In the match between Hanoi T&T and Khanh Hoa, in which T&T Hanoi scored up to five goals on February 7, Cong Vinh – the top striker of the national squad – didn’t have any goal though he had many opportunities. Meanwhile, foreign striker Endene had two goals. Cong Vinh couldn’t hire his sadness and disappointment after the match.
Not only Cong Vinh, other strikers of the national team like Viet Thang and Sy Manh didn’t have a good start at V-League 2010. In the recent match between Vissai Ninh Binh and Navibank Saigon, both Viet Thang and Sy Manh didn’t score any goal for their team, Vissai Ninh Binh. After his first goal for Vissai Ninh Binh at the National Cup 2010, the big hope Viet Thang failed to hit the net in the last two matches of V-League, though he had many chances.
The top striker of the U23 Vietnam squad at the 25th SEA Games Phan Thanh Binh was even replaced at the 68th minute in the match between Dong Tam Long An and Song Lam Nghe An.
Though he had a goal in the first match of V-League, Quang Hai played very poorly in the second one.
What are the reasons for the silence of Vietnamese strikers?
Cong Vinh said he was under pressure from public criticism following half-naked photos with his girlfriend appearing in the newspaper.
Viet Thang and Thanh Binh said they don’t completely integrate in their new teams.
Last season, Cong Vinh had 14 goals, one goal less than the Best Scorers Lazaro of the Military Zone 4 club and Gaston of the SHB Da Nang team. It is hoped that Cong Vinh and other strikers of the national team would resume their good performance to defend the AFF Cup Championship 2010.
