The latest iPhones, including the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs will be available on the domestic market from March 26. The news will be greeted with excitement by Vietnamese hi-tech lovers, especially the young.

The two companies would sell Apple’s most famous and powerful iPhone 3G and 3GS models available in Viet Nam, together with compulsory service packages, they said on Wednesday.

iPhones would be available at VinaPhone’s chain of 25 shops in Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang and some provinces nationwide, said Ho Duc Thang, VinaPhone deputy director.

Viettel would also distribute the device at its 28 shops in 25 cities and provinces, the company said.

However, as they are rivals, the two mobile phone service providers are offering attractive sale prices for the iPhone until the end of this month.

Details of the offers would be unveiled closer to the deadline, the two companies said.

A Viettel representative said Apple’s policy was for its distribution partners globally to offer the iPhone at good-value prices.

The company had experience in selling phones, so it was well-aware of the demand for iPhones among its customers, the representative said.

Dinh Viet Hung, chief of MobiFone’s marketing department, confirmed that MobiFone would enter the Apple phones distribution network next month.

iPhone is among the most popular smart phones in Viet Nam, but the official products may not see good sales figures as many users have chosen to buy the handsets at unofficial distributors at cheaper prices.

Until now, local customers had been buying the products via foreign e-commerce websites or by getting friends in foreign countries to buy the products for them.

The official announcement on iPhone distribution was welcomed but local consumers were left waitingfor pricing details.

Nguyen Van Trung in Ha Noi said he would wait until the three companies unveiled their retail prices and compulsory service packages before considering buying an iPhone.

Industry observers said the iPhone prices in Viet Nam would not be any higher than other countries because Apple had the same pricing policy for distributors.

Currently, Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone are deploying 3G services to offer high broadband internet access and high speed data transfers. The 3G-compatible iPhone will give a major boost to the development of 3G services in Viet Nam.

According to Apple’s website, the iPhone is on sale in 94 countries and territories worldwide.
