Five records set at national short course swimming championship

VnnNews - Five national records were broken right in the opening day of the 2010 National 25m Short Course Swimming Championship which kicked off at the Hanoi Aquatic Centre yesterday.

Teen prodigy Kim Tuyen from Ho Chi Minh City snatched three golds including two golds in the individual events and broke two national records. 

The tournament is for the first time included in the competition systems of the sixth National Sports Games (NSG).

Swimmers are competing for 42 sets of medal in such events as freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, medley and relay, of which 30 medal sets will be counted for the NSG.

The competition attracts some Vietnam’s best swimmers, who have just returned home from training in Kunming, China including Olympian Nguyen Huu Viet from Hai Phong, Hoang Quy Phuoc from Da Nang and Do Huy Long from Hanoi.

The tournament will run through March 19.
