Five cabinet members will be questioned by the NA Standing Committee on the last day, March 20, including Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh, Minister of Construction Nguyen Hong Quan (photo), Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang and Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Cabinet members will have to explain reasons, solutions and responsibility for “burning issues” like price management, solutions to curb inflation, the loss of Pacific Airlines, labour safety in construction, management of residential areas, construction planning and construction licencing.
Vice-Chair of the NA’s Committee for Economics Le Quoc Dung told Tuoi Tre Newspaper that pricing is a big concern of the people. “The Government was very determined to submit to the NA its plan of maintaining the consumer price index of 2010 of less than 7 percent. However, the index was more than 3 percent in the first two months of the year, so the target may not be achieved,” he admitted.
Notably, Minister of Construction Nguyen Hong Quan will join the question and answer session at a time when a series of occupational accidents have been reported at construction sites and fires in apartment blocks have hit the headlines.
Quan will have to answer questions about state management to ensure labour safety in construction, the policy on building houses for the poor and low-income earners, management of apartment blocks and new residential areas, and construction licences in big cities.
Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh will discuss price management, the increase of prices for essential goods (petrol, electricity and coal) and solutions for stabilizing prices, as well as how the government will maintain an inflation rate of less than 7 percent in 2010.
Ninh will also have to answer questions about state capital and assets management at state-owned enterprises, the responsibility of his Ministry in Pacific Airlines’ losses plus solutions to speed up equitisation at state-owned enterprises.
The government has prepared six bills to submit to the NA Standing Committee in the 29th session.
