The sales of all vehicle types have seen growth compared to the same period of last year. Some 3,498 passenger cars were sold in September, an increase of 191 percent over the same period of the previous year, while 2,443 SUV/MPV cars were sold, up by 108 percent.

The manufacturer sold 545 Innova Gs in September, up by 157 cars over August, while 406 Corolla Altis and 369 Fortuner Gasoline were sold.
Ford’s SUVs also saw impressive sales growth. A total of 570 cars were sold in September, up by 220 cars over August.
Explaining the two fold growth rate of automobile production, VAMA said sales in September 2009 were much higher than September 2008 because of tax policies. The ownership registration tax rose from five percent to 10-15 percent for less than nine seater cars in September 2008 which made car sales for the month low.
Meanwhile, the currently applied preferential tax rates under the framework of the demand stimulus programme has helped boost car sales.
