Dung joined Hai Phong Cement in 2008 when this team returned to the V-League after one year playing at the relegation-level First Division Tournament. With assistants Phan Van My and Tran Tien Anh, he helped Hai Phong finish third during the 2008 V-League season. At the time, this was the greatest success the team had been able to achieve.
However, Austrian coach Alfred Riedl, the former coach of the national squad, replaced Dung. Riedl had to leave after three matches and was replaced by Dinh The Nam.
As Nam was not successful, Dung returned to Hai Phong. Hai Phong ranked seventh during the 2009 V-League season.
At V-League 2010, Hai Phong played well and placed second after Hanoi T&T. The club’s new chairman, Mai Hong Hai, proposed a new contract for Dung. Dung refused because Hai Phong has lost many good players like Leandro, Ngoc Thanh, Minh Duc, and Trong Nghia.
Dung has not signed a contract with any other team.
