Doctors at the Thai An hospital in Vinh City, Nghe An province, on February 23 conducted an operation to take a 15cm leech from the lung of a girl.

The patient is a 19-year-old H’Mong girl from the Tuong Duong district.
Around two months ago, she did farm work and drank water from a stream. After two months, she felt uncomfortable in her throat. Her family brought the girl to a local health station where health workers discovered the leech.

The girl was moved to the An Thai hospital and on February 23, doctors removed the leech. The leech is around 15cm long and as big as a middle finger.
The girl has recovered from the operation.
