The organizing board said that this year, the light at Tokyo Tower in Japan and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany will be also be turned off during Earth Hour at 8.30pm on March 27.
“Earth Hour shows global citizens’ determination for a healthier world. This event shows the common effort of cities, communities, businesses and individuals in the fight against climate change,” said Andy Ridley, administrative director of the Earth Hour program.
In Vietnam, participating cities and provinces will also turn out their lights.
“Though you can join the event held in front of the HCM City Opera House, we encourage everybody to contribute to this important and historical event. Let’s turn off the lights and commemorate the earth, let’s enjoy that moment and think of the future of our planet,” commented Julianne Becker, a representative of WWF Vietnam.
The eighteen cities and provinces in this year’s campaign are HCMC, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Can Tho, Hoi An, Quang Ninh, Dong Nai, Thua Thien-Hue, Thanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Nghe An, Kien Giang, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen and Binh Thuan.
Last year, only six cities and provinces in the country joined the Earth-Hour program.
